Analyzing the Diesel Engine

In terms of popularity, diesel vehicles do not really fare well compared to gas vehicles. Although they are cheaper to maintain, diesel engine powered vehicles are known for being slow, noisy and smelly.

Diesel engines are not really made for power; rather diesel engines are made for torque. Diesel engines have no or little horsepower so you cannot really expect diesel engine powered vehicles to be powerful vehicles compared with gas engine ones.

Diesel engine powered vehicles are typically more expensive than gas engine powered vehicles. the parts for a diesel engine can be expensive too. Thus, maintenance of diesel engine powered vehicles tend to be costly.

What diesel lacks in power, it makes up for reliability and durability, though. The life span of a diesel engine has been found to be four times longer than the life span of a gas engine. In addition a diesel engine has a heavier built and has a less complicated internal engine.

The good thing about diesel engines is that diesel fuel is cheaper than gas fuel. It is a real value for money, because diesel fuel lasts longer than gas. You can literally fill up your gas tank without spending a fortune.

Although diesel engines are praised for their efficiency, still some folks are not in favor of diesel engines. Diesel engines are notorious for spewing black smoke and add to that the loud noise they make while they are throttled. However, this does not mean that diesel engines are problematic; it just means that the fuel used is less refined and dirtier than the fuel used for gas engines.

Tuning is an important aspect of any engine. It produces power to an engine. Sadly, diesel engines are very difficult to tune. But still, what a diesel engine lacks in difficulty in tuning it makes up in turbo charging facility. Through turbo charging, diesel engines can satisfy your need for power.

When you are choosing a vehicle, your choice boils down to what you need. Get a gasoline engine powered vehicle if you need a vehicle with power and tuning options. Get a diesel engine powered vehicle if power and torque is what you want in a vehicle. Bottom line, it is your choice.
